You've done the relaxation hour. It felt good on the table, and by Thursday the tension had settled back in. Maybe you've tried physical therapy, chiropractic, or dry needling too.
That's not a failure of effort. It's usually a mismatch of approach. Recurring pain can involve more than tight tissue — including the way your nervous system responds to stress, injury, and protection.
So I start by looking at why a pattern keeps returning, then work with the layers that may be holding it: fascia, jaw, viscera, scar tissue, breath, or the state your system has settled into.
Pain that quiets down for two days, then returns on schedule
A jaw that clicks, aches, or wakes you up clenched
An old injury your body still organizes itself around
Joints that move too much, not too little
Scar tissue that pulls, numbs, or restricts
Wired and exhausted at the same time, most days
Being told everything looks fine while nothing feels fine

Areas of practice
What I work with
Supporting the body, calming the nervous system, and nurturing the whole self.
Most sessions draw from more than one of these. You don't need to know which category you fall into — that's what the intake is for.
Intraoral & TMJ work
Chronic pain & complex cases
For long-standing patterns that haven't responded to a standard massage, and for bodies that need a slower, more specific read before anyone applies pressure.
Chronic pain
Neck & back pain
Headaches & migraine patterns
Old injuries
Hypermobility
Postural compensation
Nervous system regulation
When the body is stuck in a protective state, tissue work lands differently. This is quieter, slower work aimed at helping your system feel safe enough to let go.
Stress
Burnout
Breathwork-informed care
Restorative bodywork
Trauma-informed touch
Specialized bodywork
Techniques most massage practices don't offer — the ones that reach tissue a general full-body session can't get to.
TMJ & intraoral
Visceral work
Scar therapy
Pregnancy
Postpartum
What to expect
Your first session
Ninety minutes is the usual starting point, because the first visit includes a real conversation before anything else happens.
We talk first
History, what you've already tried, what makes it better or worse, and what you actually want from your body — not just where it hurts.
I assess how you move
A short movement and palpation assessment, so the work can address the wider pattern and not only the loudest symptom.
Hands-on work, at your pace
You stay in charge of pressure, positioning, and draping the entire time. Nothing happens without a clear yes — including intraoral work, which is always explained and always optional.
Time to integrate
We leave room at the end to let your system settle, plus one or two things to carry home. No fifteen-page corrective exercise packet.

My hand feels so much better!! Thank you so much.
I love you so much! My body has never felt better. I love the work you are doing on me and I felt a difference in my yoga practice this morning!

Thank goodness for husbands! Because idk how anyone drives home after one of Val's massages!! Best in the game.
My back hasn't been hurting as much. Now that I think about it, not at all. Maybe once it was feeling a bit tight, but compared to before, way better. I literally can't remember the last time my hip didn't hurt.
Yes, the longer massage made all the difference! I swear my jaw isn't popping as much. I was telling someone about the mouth massage — I was like, you need to go see my girl Val!
Thank you again for fitting me in yesterday. You have such a healing touch and insightful way of speaking and noticing my body-pains, that is truly magical. Such a gift you have!
I'm so glad my first ever massage experience was from you.
Girl! My knees are so much better today! NO PAIN KNEELING! You're the absolute best!
I just want to let you know my back and shoulders have been feeling good ALL DAY!! You have magic hands my friend.
You are a healing gem! I feel so beautiful, free, and at ease.

The Heart Behind Tierra Madre
Hi, I'm Val 👋🏼
I'm a licensed bodyworker and the founder of Tierra Madre Healing Arts & Body Therapy.
My journey began at Core Concepts in 2025, where I built a strong clinical foundation treating a wide range of conditions. While I loved helping people find relief from pain, I quickly realized my passion extended beyond treating symptoms — I wanted to create a space where people could slow down, exhale, and reconnect with themselves.
That desire led me to create Tierra Madre: a place where therapeutic bodywork meets mindful, intentional care. I believe the body holds our stories, our stress, and our resilience.
My role isn't to “fix” you, but to listen, support your nervous system, and help your body do what it was designed to do — heal.
Every session is thoughtfully tailored to your unique needs, blending clinical knowledge with intuition and compassion. Whether you're living with chronic pain, recovering from injury, navigating stress, or simply craving a moment to rest, my intention is always the same: to help you feel more grounded, more connected, and more at home in your body.
It's an honor to be trusted with your care. I look forward to welcoming you to the table.
